The Apple in Her Eye, Chapter 4

It was raining and Applejack was sitting in the middle of the downpour outside the hospital thinking about Rainbow Dash. Why, why me? She can't remember anything. The looks we shared, the adventures we have had, oh Celestia she can't even remember Twilight. What am I going to do? As she sat and thought about it she slowly came to a realization. I can never go back now, ah am committed to her more than ever now. But, ah still have the farm to run so who can ah ask to do this? The answer was suddenly clear to her. She got up and shook herself off, and then she walked back into the hospital feeling much better than she had in a while.

Big Mac slowly opened up his eyes and to his enjoyment the first thing he saw was a bright yellow face with teal eyes looking directly into his. After realizing that Big Mac was looking at her she looked away and her face began to grow red.

"You're so cute when you blush," this of course made her blush more and Big Mac thought he heard a thank you from behind the veil of pink hair that she now hid her face behind. Big Mac sat up with some difficulty, he grunted as his back popped and Fluttershy said in an urgent voice, "Oh don't hurt yourself to sit up just because I'm hear."

"No, ah have something to say to you and ah don't want to be flat on my back when ah do it"

Fluttershy looked up at him and nodded slowly her eyes tearing up, "it's okay, I understand that you don't like me that way, you don't have to say it. I got my hopes up for nothing, I'm sorry."

Big Mac was taken back, "That's not it at all sugarcube, I wanted to tell you that ah do like ya, but ah have never been in a relationship with anypony before, ah was coming to tell you that ah liked ya and all, but ah wanted to start it off right and my pa always said that to get good with a mare you got to get her a gift. That's what ah was coming to town to do when Miss Rainbow ran me over."

Fluttershy looked like she was going to cry, it was the most she had ever heard out of the red stallion ever in her life, "It's just that I was so worried, Applejack came to my door that afternoon and said that you were hurt, I passed out. Then when ah got here and saw you on the bed ah just broke down, it took Twilight and Applejack all day to convince me that I needed to eat and it was not till the next day that got me to sleep. Oh and I did not even think of Rainbow Dash till today, oh I have been horrible, I'm so sorry."

Macintosh put his front for leg around her. The small yellow mare was now sobbing under his arm; it just felt right to pull her close to him as she started to cry harder, pulling her closer still he whispered in her ear, "You're not horrible sugarcube, you're the most kind hearted mare that ah ever met and ah can't even think of what ah put you through these last few days but I intend to make it up to ya, so please stop crying. You look so much more beautiful with a smile on your face." Big Mac then did something he had never done before, he delicately kissed Fluttershy on her lips as light as he could. She then thru her front hooves around Big Mac and hugged him as tight as she could then kissed him back just as if not more passionately as Big Mac kissed her.

She leaned back from him and looked him square in the eye with tears of joy streaming down her face and said, "Big Mac you are the most amazing stallion that a mare could ever wish for and I think I love you." Right after she said it she knew she had said something wrong, he was stiff in her arms and he had that fight or flight look that she had seen on the many animals she had nursed back to health.

Big Mac swallowed and tried to get the words past the piece of lead that now seemed to be his tong. "Now don't get me wrong sugarcube ah really like ya, but love is a big word for a farm pony like myself and I really don't want us to be going that fast. Please ya have to understand I really like ya, Ah'm just not there yet.

Fluttershy looked astonished and taken back. No, I've made her cry again, gosh this isn't going how ah wanted it to at all. But then Fluttershy smiled and looked at Big Mac, "I get what you mean we only started really talking four days ago, we should get to know each other better, I mean if it's alright with you…"

"Miss Fluttershy, nothing would make me happier that to know you better," he gave her his most winning smile and she blushed a deep red and said, "Thank you, I'm really sorry but I haven't got much sleep lately, so I you don't mind I'm going to go to bed. Can I get you anything before I go back to my room?"

"No thank ya, you should get some rest, you've been through a lot. Get some sleep I promise to call ya if anything happens."

"Okay then, Good night Big Mac," she smiled and gave him a peck on the cheek which made him blush an even deeper red than his coat.

"Good night to you too, Fluttershy."

Fluttershy walk out of the room and down the hall with a small smile on her face. Inside she was leaping for joy and yelling at the top of her lungs. She was so caught up in her mental party that she forgot to look where she was going and she ran right into a soaking wet Applejack. "Whoa there flutter, were you headed off…" Then she looked at Fluttershy's still smiling face then looked back down the hall to her brother's open door. Applejack jumped up into the air while gasping out loud and took off down the hall toward Big Mac's room.

Fluttershy smiled to herself and blushed a bit, well, I guess they would find out sooner or later. Then Fluttershy saw the door that Applejack had just come out of. Cantering over to it she peered inside, see saw one of the most distressing things she had ever seen. Rainbow Dash was in her hospital bed but, unlike Big Mac she had a bunch of tubes and needles plugged into her. Dash was hardly able to move, this must be horrible for her, stuck in here with all the machines pumping things into her, and I guess unicorn magic can only do so much.  She noticed Dash was sleeping, so she closed her door and went off to bed. Fluttershy could now see the light of a new day. She could see how she was going to help Dash and she could see that it just might work out with the stallion of her dreams. As she drifted off to sleep she heard thunder roll and the rain lash out at the window but they could not touch her right now. She was with Big Mac in the world of perfection that might become reality.

Big Mac was starring after Fluttershy, he meant every word about taking it slow he said to her but all he could think about as he watched her leave the room was,dat flank. He was still thinking about it when he heard the clopping of hooves, he thought nothing of it till he saw Applejack run into the room and close the door and lock it. She looked at him for a moment, "Okay Romeo spill the beans, ah know when ah see a happy Fluttershy and that back there was a happy Fluttershy ah just saw. What did yawl do?

Macintosh was surprised that AJ cared this much till he thought about it for a bit, the day off of work, the pushing out the door, AJ going to get Fluttershy from her house that day and even before that it seemed like he and Fluttershy met each other on the road and in town much more often that should be possible…

"You, sneaky devil  you!," Big Mac pointed a hoof at his sister who was smiling smugly.

"You've been try'en to throw us together for a while now haven't ya!"

"That's right you silly pony and guess who put me up to it to?"

"You're joking, there's no way Fluttershy would ever do that, she's too kind and, and…

Sweet!" Big Mac finished somewhat lamely. Then all the dot's connected in his head,
"You've been helping her this whole time, really?"

"Ehyup."

Big Mac face hooved, "ya don't say, well good thing ah really her and it's a darn good thing it worked out. Well ah guess I'm glad ya did, ah haven't been this happy for a long time, what about you? You seem to be feeling better."

The smile faded off AJ's face, "ah was meaning to talk to ya about that, ah was wonderen if you would help Fluttershy take care of Rainbow and get her back in the real world. Ah really hate to ask it of ya but ah got the farm to run and not even you can do that for me. Would ya please, it would mean so much to me if ya did."

"AJ I would always help you and of course ah would help Miss Dash, ah was already plan 'in on asking ya for the time off anyhow."

"Thank ya so much big brother, ya don't know what it means to me,"

Big Mac thought of Fluttershy and said, "Ah think ah do."

Applejack saw the look in his eye, "Ah think ya do to."

Oh, man this chapter was like pulling teeth or some other painful long process. I really don't know how I fell about this chapter. It was hard and I tried to put a lot of emotion into it but I'm not positive I did a good job. If you would give me some feedback on the content rather than my grammatical errors, that would be so, so helpful and if you haven't checked out my other story go take a look at it. It's ponies playing D&D and Discord being Discord. What could go wrong right? It's humanized pony stuff so fair warning. It is SFW so no clop.
